1950s Gold Manly "Borsalino" Style 2" Brim Panama Fedora Hat Circ 21 5/8" mm 55 size 7The interior has a smooth black satin sweatband for a comfortable feel. This is a classically styled and fine quality panama hat with a fashionable feel. The hat is marked 55 for size， and measures out with a 21 3/4" circumference or a size 7 It has a 2-" brim and 4-1/4" open crown uncreased. The crown is wrapped in a 1-3/4" black colored grosgrain ribbon and looks like it could be reshaped to a creased shape. The hat shows little wear. The Straw is in good shape with no staining， and a few slight pictured flaws . The back top of the crown could stand some steam and blocking. The hat has a nice hand and shapes easily. The sweat band is supple and the debossings still shine. I am estimating the 1940s， 1950s date of manufacture based on the logo style debossed in the sweatband for the store. Panama hats are traditionally summer hats woven from the toquilla palm found in Ecuador， and are still primarily woven there today. They are light colored， more often than not in their natural straw shade， breathable and blocked into a fedora or wide brimmed shape. Hat weaving was one of the primary industries in Ecuador in the 17th and 18th. Please check my other hat auctions.
